Description
IEC 60870-5-103 Master Network Interface Module for ControlLogix
The MVI56 IEC 60870-5-103 Master Network Interface Module allows ControlLogix processors to interface easily with IEC 60870-5-103 Slave devices. The MVI56-103M module interfaces up to 32 serial communication devices with the ControlLogix processor. Two communication ports on the module act as controlling devices (Masters) to interface with controlled devices on their own networks.
Each port is individually configurable. The MVI56-103M is the ideal solution for many applications where IEC-compatible devices must communicate with the ControlLogix platform. Compatible devices include relays, breakers, sub-station communication modules and other serial communication devices. Functionality of the IEC protocol is very similar to the DNP 3.0 protocol which features time stamping and True Report by Exception (TRBE). These features allow the MVI56-103M module to send a report to the processor without being polled, providing real time data transmission in critical situations.
Features and Benefits
The MVI56-103M supports up to 32 total field devices between the module’s two IEC 60870-5-103 Master ports. The module’s communication ports can each be independently configured, allowing two separate field networks to be implemented. The field device data is exchanged between the MVI module and the ControlLogix processor over the backplane.
Applications
The MVI56-103M module is the ideal solution for many applications where IEC protocol connectivity must be added to a ControlLogix system. The IEC solution is designed to address the expanding interest in the IEC protocol and the use of IEC compatible devices in industrial applications such as those in the water/wastewater power and oil & gas industries.
Compatible devices include relays, breakers, sub-station Communication Modules and other serial communication devices.
