The MVI69 IEC 60870-5-101 Master Network Interface Module allows CompactLogix processors to interface easily with IEC 60870-5-101 Slave devices. The MVI69-101M module interfaces up to 32 serial communication devices with the CompactLogix processor. Two communication ports on the module act as controlling devices (Masters) to interface with controlled devices on their own networks.

Each port is individually configurable. The MVI69-101M is the ideal solution for many applications where IEC-compatible devices must communicate with the ControlLogix platform. Compatible devices include relays, breakers, sub-station communication modules and other serial communication devices. Functionality of the IEC protocol is very similar to the DNP 3.0 protocol which features time stamping and True Report by Exception (TRBE). These features allow the MVI69-101M module to send a report to the processor without being polled, providing real time data transmission in critical situations.

The MVI69-101M module interfaces up to 32 serial communication devices with the CompactLogix processor. Two communication ports on the module act as controlling devices (masters) to interface with controlled devices on their own networks. Each port is individually configurable and can be set for balanced or unbalanced mode. Data is exchanged between the serial network and the CompactLogix processor using the internal database contained in the module and direct control by the processors ladder logic.

The IEC solution is designed to address the expanding interest in the IEC protocol and the use of IEC compatible devices in industrial applications such as those in the water/wastewater, power, and oil & gas industries.
