Managed, unmanaged and Power over Ethernet switches to ethernet extenders - from industry leaders and manufactures Westermo
Ethernet in industrial environment must be very reliable as downtime is much less tolerable in the factory than the office. Harsh environments with electrical noise and vibrations require equipment of very high quality.
Ethernet is now the preferred networking system in automation, but all serial installations (RS-232 and RS-485) installed over the years require different adapters and converters to connect already existing installations to Ethernet.
Westermo has different kind of Ethernet equipment, serial servers for RS-232 and RS-485, TCP PPP servers and client/host routers.
Westermo Ethernet Switches
Robust Ethernet switches that can withstand all industrial environments
The Westermo range of industrial Ethernet switches are designed for use in harsh environments and allow you to build cost-effective, reliable, secure networks. Whether you require an unmanaged switch for a point to point link, a managed switch for redundancy or a layer 3 switch for network routing, our extensive knowledge of the various standards used in railway, defence, water treatment, substation automation and road applications means we have the ideal solution, regardless of the environment.
Managed Ethernet Switches
Rugged switches that make managing your network easy
The Westermo range of managed industrial Ethernet switches are designed for use in harsh environments and allow you to build cost-effective, reliable, secure networks. With support for redundant rings, PoE (Power over Ethernet) and legacy serial connections, our range can meet any demand your application requires.
Our range of managed switches far exceeds normal industrial requirements, with rugged designs to withstand extreme temperatures and electromagnetic interference, whether mounted on a DIN-rail or in a rack.
UnManaged Ethernet Switches
Plug and play simplicity with industrial-grade reliability
The Westermo range of unmanaged industrial Ethernet switches are designed for use in such demanding applications as railways, water treatment, substation automation, roads and tunnels, as well as factory automation, IP surveillance and building automation systems (BMS). With multiple options for fibre optic and copper connectivity, PoE (Power over Ethernet) support, and little to no configuration required, our unmanaged switches ensure maintaining your network is made easy.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) Switches
PoE switches for when security and surveillance are crucial
The Westermo range of industrial PoE switches are designed to meet either the 802.3af standard, or the 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE) Plus standard for high power applications e.g. real time IP video surveillance. With Gigabit uplink ports included with every model, the i-line range of PoE switches ensures high-bandwidth connections for standard IP cameras whether installed on a bus, in a train, on a boat etc.
Extend your network far beyond the normal limits of Ethernet
The Westermo Wolverine series of industrial Ethernet extenders allow cost-effective Ethernet networks to be created over long distances, at high data rates. The SHDSL technology employed makes it possible to reuse many types of pre-existing cabling which in turn can lead to considerable financial savings. With support for multidrop networks, redundant rings, legacy serial connections and layer 3 routing functions, our range of Ethernet extenders can meet any demand your application requires.

The Westermo Wolverine DDW-142-12VDC-BP Industrial Ethernet Line extender is based on SHDSL technology and enables existing copper cables to be used to create Ethernet IP-based networks. This helps to achieve significant time and cost savings when installing new communication networks.
Because old cable networks were rarely installed with resilient data paths in mind, there is a potential risk when using these as part of a modern IP-based network. Should a unit suffer a power failure, the Wolverine Line Extender’s integrated bypass relay short-circuits the two SHDSL interfaces allowing a renegotiation between adjacent extenders; this allows communication to be restored automatically.
In addition, the Westermo Wolverine series offer `power failure resiliency’ ensuring continued network operation in the event of a primary power failure. A dual power supply is now complimented by a 12 VDC option, which enables a batt ery to provide the power supply redundancy. The transition between primary and secondary power is immediate and seamless, ensuring maximum network uptime.
The DDW-142-12VDC-BP enables networks to be created over distances of up to 15km, offering data rates of over 15 Mbits/s on a single twisted pair cable. Bonded pairs double this rate to over 30 Mbit/s. An integral switch enables two Ethernet devices to be attached and a further RS232 port ensures legacy equipment can be incorporated into an IP network.
The DDW-142-12VDC-BP is very easy to install, with no configuration required for basic applications and a web interface to support simple configuration for more complex networks. The device is ideal for basic point-to-point or multidrop networks in applications where failures can result in significant costs. The WeOS operating system supports secure and resilient multi media ring networks.
The unit offers exceptional reliability and is certified for installation in environments with high levels of vibration and extreme temperatures such as those found in rail, marine and the utility applications.
DDW-142 Industrial Ethernet Extender
- Save time and money reusing old cable and equipment
- From 32 kbit/s to 15.3 Mbit/s Ethernet over twisted pair or up to 30.4 Mbit/s with bonding
- 2 port 100 Mbit L2 switch supporting VLAN and QoS
- Legacy connection via RS-232 port
- Ring topologies available for Ethernet and/or serial networks
The two SHDSL ports can be bonded together giving a duplicated bandwidth on a 4 wire connection.
Unmanaged plug and play extenders for industrial Ethernet
The Westermo Wolverine range of point to point industrial Ethernet extenders allow a network to be linked beyond the standard 100m limit. Utilising SHDSL technology on twisted pair cables, the point to point Wolverine Ethernet extenders provide high data rate connections over long distances. With a robust design, the Wolverine extenders are designed for use in harsh environments and, with our many years of experience in railway applications, meet the many specific needs of the rail industry.
The Wolverine series of Ethernet extenders allow cost effective Ethernet networks to be created over long distances, at data rates of up to 15.3 Mbit/s. The SHDSL technology makes it possible to reuse many types of pre-existing copper cables. This can lead to considerable financial savings as expensive fibre cables do not need to be installed. Dependent on cable characteristics, distances up to 15 km (9.3 mi) can be achieved. Configuration of the DDW-120 is performed using only DIP switches, which ensures rapid installation.
Extend your managed network with the Wolverine
